THE X-FILES 10X06 Season Finale Debriefing: You reap what you sow

Courtesy Fox

Ain’t no party like an apocalypse party, y’all.

Spoiler alert: It turns out that colonization threat that made Mulder go on the lam days after his son was born 15 years ago was real, only planet Earth was off by a few years. (Darn calendar mix-ups!)

The stuff’s about to hit the fan — or the UFO — and it’s up to Scully to save the world, as per usual, thanks to a little help from some friends and foes from her past.

Villains, viruses and vehicles, oh my!

If you ever wished you could see Fox Mulder high on magic mushrooms, boy, does The X-Files have the episode for you!

This week, the agents meet their younger doppelgangers, while trying to solve a case that is as nuanced as Mulder’s dance moves. (In other words, not.) It might all just be an excuse to get David Duchovny shirtless, but that’s about where the subtlety ends.

Very belated THE X-FILES 10×04 Debriefing: Still spooky after all these years

Sorry for the radio silence the last two weeks, folks. Will be back to usual posting schedule as of this week, hopefully.

The X-Files always did know how to pull at our heartstrings back in the day. Mulder and Scully chasing monsters together often served to contextualize the tragedy of the human condition, whether it was at the victims’ expense or their own.

This week, our heroes suffer yet another loss, but in true X-Files-y fashion, they soldier on to crack yet another case — and learn a little about themselves in the process. There’s a lot of reminiscing going on, and perhaps even a little glance at the future, too.

THE X-FILES 10×01 Debriefing: Same old conspiracy song and dance

THE X-FILES: L-R: Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully and David Duchovny as Fox Mulder. The next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES debuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 24 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The thrilling, six-episode event series, helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY, marks the momentous return of the Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history. ©2015 Fox Broadcasting Co. *Insert “The Truth Is Still Out There” pun here*

Fourteen years after the original series went off the air, and eight years after its last movie was released, it feels downright strange to be reviewing a brand-new episode of The X-Files. Like we’ve hit some sort of collective rewind button, sharing this trip down memory lane all together.

Yet somehow, the most quintessentially ‘90s show feels topical, since it seems like maybe all those government conspiracies Fox Mulder raved about to anyone who’d listen (and many who wouldn’t) over the last few decades aren’t so fantastical after all. Mulder and Scully are back, a little older and wiser and battle-worn, but don’t let that fool you — these two are in the thick of it, and for that, we should all be grateful.

Grab your tinfoil hats and alien-grade icepicks, because it’s about to be a bumpy ride.

Can you believe it, X-Philes?

Where once another chapter in Mulder and Scully’s saga seemed but a pipe dream, now it’s gearing up to hit our screens in less than two weeks.

Last night, the folks at FOX hosted a party for The X-Files Season 10 premiere, and have graciously given fans a special peek into the festivities!

Since we’re pumped about the revival here at TYLL, we thought we’d take a glance at the snapshots to get us primed for “My Struggle,” season 10’s debut airing January 24th on FOX at 10pm ET/7pm PT.

We can’t wait for the new season to begin, but until then, we’ll bask in the fact that it’s 2016 and we’re still celebrating one of TV’s most iconic shows!

THE X-FILES at New York Comic Con 2015!

Are you as excited as we are?

The X-Files is returning to TV in January, almost 14 years after going off the air, and 7 years after the last movie.

Lucky fans got to preview the first episode of the new season at Comic Con this weekend, and as an extra treat, watched a panel hosted by uber-fan and season 10 guest star Kumail Nanjiani. Series creator Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny and Mitch Pileggi were on hand to dish about the revival, and we can’t wait to see the premiere in 2016. (Who’d ever think we’d get to say that again?)

To tide us over, FOX released pictures of the event. We certainly wish we were there, but we can’t wait to talk about the show with fellow Philes in a few months!

Bones 10×22 Stills “The Next in the Last”

Can you believe another season of Bones is coming to an end? And we’ve got the stills from its finale to prove it!

In an episode aptly named “The End in the End” (now once again known as “The Next in the Last”),  Booth and Brennan weigh their options about their future, and it looks like the entire Jeffersonian team is following suit —remember Angela and Hodgins’ decision to move to Paris? That’s also coming into play in the finale as well.

Moreover, it wouldn’t be Bones without a case, and the finale’s case seems big (after all, four squinterns are back): the crime scene elements seem to point towards a protégé Pelant’s, so they will have to revise their previous work on Pelant while tracing the new clues that will hopefully lead them to the copycat.

Click below for some photos from the episode. (Looks like FOX skipped right over the ones for “The Light in the Life” the week before!)

The season finale airs Thursday, June 11 at 8/7c on FOX.

[ETA: Title is “The Next in the Last” once again! The post has been changed to reflect that.]

BONES Season 10 Stills: “The Teacher in the Books”

When it rains, it pours!

After yesterday’s release of the promotional photos for the spring premiere, today FOX rewarded our patience by giving us the stills for the April 2 episode, too!

According to the episode description, courtesy of The Futon Critic:

When an affluent school teacher is found dead in an abandoned bookstore, the teachers and students at her school become suspects in the case. Meanwhile, Brennan’s publisher encourages her to join Twitter to help grow her fan base, and “squintern” Jessica Warren (guest star Laura Spencer) teaches Brennan some tricks to master the Twitter-verse, skills Brennan enthusiastically puts to use in the all-new “The Teacher in the Books” episode of BONES airing Thursday, April 2 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

BONES Season 10 Stills: “The Psychic in the Soup”

bones cast s10

It’s baaaaaaaaack!

It’s been 84 years… er, a long hiatus, but at long last Bones is back on our TV screens in a couple of weeks.

FOX released the promotional stills for the show’s 11th episode this season, “The Psychic in the Soup.”

As per the press release, the episode will delve into the fortune tellers’ world, as a psychic is found decomposing in a trunk — and yes, Avalon Harmonia (Tony winner Cyndi Lauper) will be back to help the team! Elsewhere in the episode, Booth and Brennan grapple with Christine’s new imaginary friend, and the team will honor Sweets on his birthday (aw!).

(We can’t wait to see this episode, right along with you guys!)

But to tide you over, here are some pictures, all courtesy of FOXFlash, from the spring premiere, which airs March 26 at 8/7c.

BONES S10 Stills: “The Money Maker in the Merry-Go-Round”

Is it me or are these titles getting longer?

Though I know there is a longer title to come, I am kidding.

“The Money Maker in the Merry-Go-Round” is Bones‘ seventh episode this season, airing on November 13th at 8/7c on FOX.

According to the episode’s press release, the remains of the week are found under a merry-go-round and as a result, the team begins a complicated investigation of a billion-dollar hedge fund company.  Even though the victim’s boss (played by The Shawshank Redemption‘s Gil Bellows) becomes a prime suspect in the investigation, the team will quickly find evidence incriminating the victim. Elsewhere, Aubrey develops an emotional attachment to the case, complicating matters and Booth and Brennan will find themselves at odds when Christine utters her first curse word.
