RED BAND SOCIETY Debriefing: “I’m not a sob story”

[Apologies for the late recap. Neither life nor WordPress have been collaborative as of late.]

Wednesday’s episode of Red Band Society, “There Is No Place Like Homecoming,”  was all about feeling home, in the occasion of Kara’s upcoming homecoming dance. Not only that, but Leo has just received an important offer he is considering and Jordi’s mom Eva is still around.

But what exactly went down in the episode? Click below.

While she insists she doesn’t have a specific type of show, they all usually have strong but flawed lady characters, some derivation of the stubborn friends-in-love/friends-to-lovers trope, and they all make her yell at her tv a lot. She just wishes she had more hours in the day so she could actually write about this.

RED BAND SOCIETY Debriefing: Demons In His Leg

cast_redband

I am aware of the fact that Red Band Society isn’t doing particularly well in the ratings and that saddens me. I find the show to be charming and cute – something I cannot say about a lot of other new offerings this season. It knows what stories it wants to tell and should only improve with time.

Tonight’s episode, “Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire” picked up the morning after Dr. McAndrew’s (Dave Annable) hookup with the pretty redhead and was all about, you guessed it, lies.

So if you have watched the episode, let’s talk about it!

RED BAND SOCIETY Debriefing: “Do you take plastic?”

Even though I didn’t recap anything last week, I did write a brief, nonspoilery review of the Red Band Society pilot a few weeks back. I had many thoughts after watching the pilot again last week, but I had enough new musings to check in this week.

So let’s discuss the events that transpired in “Sole Searching”! Warning: spoilers ahead.

Tuning In Tonight: 09/24/14

Nels: Hmm, things are starting to heat up on my DVR. I started watching The Middle this summer when it ran in syndication on one of my local stations, so I may tune in to its season premiere at 8 on ABC, just to see my favorite loveable nerd Sue Heck be her usual adorable self. I’ll be watching Red Band Society at 9 on FOX, and maybe even black-ish (which I’ve already reviewed) on ABC at 9:30 if I’ve got the time. Then it’s time for my guilty pleasure, Nashville, at 10 on ABC — I can’t wait to see what they do with Juliette’s story, or what the Stella sisters sing this week.

Cassidy: I’m watching the second episode of Red Band Society at 9 and then, I’ll tune in to watch the Big Brother finale at 10, even if the episode starts at 9:30. Here’s hoping I don’t miss that much in that first half hour. (And with BB16‘s finale my summer shows are officially done!)

Lucie:  I may tune into The Mysteries of Laura even though the premiere was extremely underwhelming. If it’s unbearable, I’ll switch to The Goldbergs on at a new night on ABC at 8:30/7:30c.  Count me in as another to watch Red Band Society while the PVR records Modern Family and black-ish.  I’ll be PVRing Nashville but will probably watch it live as well. But by that time at night, I’m using half listening while I’m settling down for bed. I can’t help it – I’m old.

Tuning In Tonight: 09/17/14

It’s Wednesday! We’re halfway through the week! So what are we watching to get us through the the home stretch?

Nels: After reading Cassidy’s fantastic review of the pilot, as well as watching the sneak peeks FOX released, I’m going to check out Red Band Society tonight at 9 to see if it lives up to expectations.

Cassidy: Again, this is another Big Brother night for me. Tonight’s episode is actually live… Who did Derrick nominate? Who won the veto? Who will be going home? So many questions. I might also watch the Red Band Society pilot again, but that depends on how tired I am by then.

Fall 2014: What We’re Watching!

It’s hard to believe it, but the 2014-15 TV season is nearly upon us! We here at TYLL thought this would be a great time to talk about what we’re most looking forward to this fall. Join Nels, Cassidy and Lucie as we discuss what we’re tuning into in a few weeks.

Cassidy has you covered from A to Z to, well, A to Z. She’s our go-to person for everything you need to know about the new season, because if it’s airing, she’s heard about it.

Watch RED BAND SOCIETY now!

After a clever (and kind) promotional campaign in which we were asked to raise 100k dollars for charity, the full Red Band Society pilot has been made available for preview on FOX.com and Hulu (you can also watch it below). There’s a catch: it’s only available for 100 hours (until Tuesday)!
