NEW GIRL Fall Finale Debriefing: They got off the plane! (Then got back on.)

Nothing truly tests your mettle like traveling at Christmas time. Especially if it’s traveling after a winter storm completely decimates flight schedules. The gang are all heading out of town for their holidays, but no one gets where they’re going in the way they expect. (Meanwhile, Nels has a little too much déjà vu, but that’s a whole other story.)

Nels
Nels knew how to operate a TV remote control before she knew how to talk. As a result, she has spent an inordinate amount of time pretending she actually lives on a soundstage. When she isn’t watching whichever show is currently capturing her heart, she is writing about how said show is currently capturing her heart. She loves pie.

NEW GIRL Debriefing: Truth Bombs and Guys’ Nights

newgirls4shobb

This week on New Girl, Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Coach (Damon Wayans Jr.) head to a teacher’s conference led by guest star Lisa Bonet for a little inspiration, while Nick (Jake M. Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Winston (Lamorne Morris) take advantage of their absence for a “guys’ night” at the loft. Except crushes and wine stains prove to be powerful foes for the gang in all their ventures.

It’s Winston’s (Lamorne Morris) time to shine this week: he’s getting close to graduating the police academy, and his future all hinges on him passing his background check. Which means, of course, that his roommates are front and center during a home visit by the toughest investigator the LAPD can find, apparently. Piece of cake, right? Well, unless you’re Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and accidentally bought a bag full of meth inside of a secondhand footstool, that is. Poor Winston, he’s never going to be a cop at this rate.

Weekly Roundup: September 28-October 4

Weekly Roundup

The TV season is in full swing, and we have a lot of things to discuss.

So let’s go ahead.

… is a young graduate student that has been way too passionate about television ever since she was little. While she insists she doesn’t have a specific type of show, they all usually have strong but flawed lady characters, some derivation of the stubborn friends-in-love/friends-to-lovers trope, and they all make her yell at her tv a lot. She just wishes she had more hours in the day so she could actually write about this.

NEW GIRL Debriefing: It’s always sunny in the loft

NEW GIRL: Jess' (Zooey Deschanel, second from L) dad (guest star Rob Reiner, second from R) arrives with his new girlfried (guest star Kaitlin Olson, R) in the "Julie Beckman's Older Sister" episode of NEW GIRL airing Tuesday, Sept. 30 (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX. It’s an all-It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, all the time kind of night on FOX, with Kaitlin Olson (Dee) guest starring on New Girl tonight, and Glenn Howerton (Dennis) paying a visit to Mindy Project right after!

It’s firmly boys vs. girls this week: Cece (Hannah Simone) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) meet her dad’s new girlfriend, while Winston (Lamorne Morris), Coach (Damon Wayans Jr.) and Nick (Jake M. Johnson) help Schmidt (Max Greenfield) out with his focus group at work. What could possibly go wrong? Everything.

Monday Caption Madness!

Mondays aren’t always very fun, so just like last week, we thought we’d try to liven things up and engage in a little frivolity to begin our week.

In this week’s edition, we’re throwing a still from next week’s episode of New Girl at you. Give us your best shot! Be funny, be creative, be snarky, be yourselves!

NEW GIRL Debriefing: Single and ready to mingle

In this week’s instalment, Jess  jumps back into the dating world, twenty-first century style, with Schmidt’s help. Meanwhile, the rest of the gang decides they’re going to have one last kick at the illegal pastime can before Winston  becomes a cop. Only, they don’t tell Winston what they’re up to, because that would ruin all the fun, now, wouldn’t it? As you can imagine, hilarity ensues in each of these scenarios.

Tuning In Tonight: 09/23/14

Nels: I’m tuning into New Girl  at 9, and curiosity’s got the best of me, so I’ll probably be catching The Mindy Project afterwards to see just what force of nature gave us Danny Castellano…

Cassidy: I’ll probably have a study break to watch FOX’s two hip comedies, New Girl and The Mindy Project, starting at 9/8c. They both had promising premieres and I can’t wait to see how they continue. Plus, Mindy will introduce us to Danny’s mom, played by Rhea Perlman — that’s pretty cool.

Lucie:  I might give the season premiere of Agents of SHIELD a look on ABC at 9, though I find I generally enjoy it more when I can binge-watch it all at once.

NEW GIRL Debriefing: “Sex fist” works about as well as you think it would.

NewGirl-Ep401_LastWedding-Sc21_0189_preview

The gang returned tonight, all single and ready to mingle, after a summer of attending weddings and trying to get lucky as much as they could, with varying results. At wedding number twelve, the last of the summer, things come to a boiling point on New Girl, and everyone tries to get one last roll in the hay before the social calendar resumes its regular schedule. As you can imagine with the likes of these goofballs, things didn’t exactly go as planned.

Tuning In Tonight (09/16/14)

Want to know what our team here at TYLL is watching tonight? (Of course you do.) Here it is!

Nels: I’m going to take a gander at FOX’s comedy block, with season premieres of both New Girl at 9pm and The Mindy Project at 9:30pm sure to create a lot of water cooler fodder. I admit I wasn’t totally thrilled with either of their seasons last year, but their first few episodes are so jam-packed with exciting guest stars that I’m definitely going to give them another shot tonight. (That being said, I just got the Bones season 9 DVDs and I might have to check out the special features tonight, just for fun.)

Cassidy: I hadn’t realized how busy tonight is for me until I had to think about it. I’m watching what promises to be a packed episode of Big Brother 16 at 8, followed by the FOX comedies: a guest star-filled New Girl and The Mindy Project. Both shows had interesting seasons last year and I can’t wait to see how they start their seasons. Finally, I’m definitely tuning in to watch Finding Carter over at MTV – one of this summer’s surprises. I’m excited for tonight!

Lucie: It’s another night of reality TV with the penultimate episode of The Amazing Race Canada on CTV at 9/8c. The previews allude to a difficult roadblock in New Brunswick and since the remaining four teams are pretty evenly matched, it’s anyone’s game as to who makes it into the finale (which will be airing at a special day and time – this Sunday, 8/7c).
