Tuning In Tonight: 09/22/14

Nels:  Finally, new TV is upon us! I’m going to take a look at Gotham and Sleepy Hollow over on FOX. What a perfect way to ring in the fall!

Cassidy: I’m so, so happy the fall TV season is starting! Tonight is a FOX kinda night for me: I’ll be watching Gotham at 8/7c and Sleepy Hollow‘s return at 9/8c. Eeek.

Lucie: Oh TV, how I love thee! Count me in as another to check out Gotham tonight. I’m also going to watch Forever on ABC at 10/9c. I’m not expecting a lot from it but Alana de la Garza is my second favourite ADA (Connie Rubirosa!) in the Law & Order Universe so I’ll be tuning in just for her. I will forever be a L&O fangirl.

Nels: Other than a little Sunday evening football, I’m going to give the premiere of Madam Secretary a shot tonight. Bring on the political drama and crazy plot twists! (And that’s just the football! Bada-ching!) I’m also finally — finally — catching up on season 2 of Orphan Black. Three more episodes to go!

Cassidy: If the football overruns aren’t too annoying, I will probably check Madam Secretary and The Good Wife‘s premieres on CBS. I don’t have Showtime, so no Masters of Sex for me until later this week. It feels good to have most shows finally coming back!

Lucie: Three hours of TV for me tonight! The Amazing Race Canada wraps up its second season tonight on CTV and I can honestly say that I wouldn’t mind if any of the three teams won. I can’t remember the last time (if ever) I could say that about reality TV! I’ll be tuning into the season premiere of The Good Wife and if the guide on the TV is correct (it’s been hit and miss lately), I’ll watch the rerun  Madam Secretary as it’s currently says it’ll be reaired at 9:30c. That doesn’t seem right, so it looks like I may be catching it On Demand later this week.

CassidyBig Brother at 8, which will feature the first of the three final 3 HOH competitions, and then, I’ll probably catch up on last week’s Masters of Sex episode. Next week should be more exciting, though!

Lucie: It’s a repeat night for me. I got Red Band Society on Hulu last night but Fox is reairing the pilot tonight at 8/7c. I really liked it! I’m looking forward to next week. Afterwards, it’ll be more Netflix as I try to finish my marathon of Happy Endings.

Nels: Still trying to catch up on my Late Late Show episodes on my DVR and need to clear a whole bunch of space before the new fall season begins next week and fills it up again! I’m also behind on this season of Orphan Black which I may try to fix. Otherwise, not much on the tube tonight to catch my interest, until next week.

Cassidy: I don’t think I’ll be watching anything tonight, which is too bad. It’s either going to be a Netflix or a “I’ll watch those Sleepy Hollow reruns” night. I am also quite mad my TV doesn’t get FX even if it’s supposed to, but I’ll find a way to watch the You’re The Worst finale (renew this show, FX!).

Lucie: I should have had my no TV night tonight instead of last! (Forgot to watch Red Band Society last night.) I may watch the rerun the Grey’s Anatomy season 10 finale to gear myself up for the season premiere next week. Otherwise, it’ll be a Netflix night as I try to finish my marathon of Happy Endings, all the while wondering why I’m watching.

It’s Wednesday! We’re halfway through the week! So what are we watching to get us through the the home stretch?

Nels: After reading Cassidy’s fantastic review of the pilot, as well as watching the sneak peeks FOX released, I’m going to check out Red Band Society tonight at 9 to see if it lives up to expectations.

Cassidy: Again, this is another Big Brother night for me. Tonight’s episode is actually live… Who did Derrick nominate? Who won the veto? Who will be going home? So many questions. I might also watch the Red Band Society pilot again, but that depends on how tired I am by then.

Tuning In Tonight (09/16/14)

Want to know what our team here at TYLL is watching tonight? (Of course you do.) Here it is!

Nels: I’m going to take a gander at FOX’s comedy block, with season premieres of both New Girl at 9pm and The Mindy Project at 9:30pm sure to create a lot of water cooler fodder. I admit I wasn’t totally thrilled with either of their seasons last year, but their first few episodes are so jam-packed with exciting guest stars that I’m definitely going to give them another shot tonight. (That being said, I just got the Bones season 9 DVDs and I might have to check out the special features tonight, just for fun.)

Cassidy: I hadn’t realized how busy tonight is for me until I had to think about it. I’m watching what promises to be a packed episode of Big Brother 16 at 8, followed by the FOX comedies: a guest star-filled New Girl and The Mindy Project. Both shows had interesting seasons last year and I can’t wait to see how they start their seasons. Finally, I’m definitely tuning in to watch Finding Carter over at MTV – one of this summer’s surprises. I’m excited for tonight!

Lucie: It’s another night of reality TV with the penultimate episode of The Amazing Race Canada on CTV at 9/8c. The previews allude to a difficult roadblock in New Brunswick and since the remaining four teams are pretty evenly matched, it’s anyone’s game as to who makes it into the finale (which will be airing at a special day and time – this Sunday, 8/7c).

As fall draws closer, so does the fall TV season! From now on, TYLL will share what we’re watching every night with you! Be sure to tell us down in the comments what you’re tuning into, too.

Nels: Honestly? It’s probably going to be a Netflix kind of night for me. I am woefully behind on Scandal, as in, still on season 1, so I may try to catch up on it before the new season premieres! (I’ve also got a DVR full of Late Late Show episodes I’ve missed in the last few weeks — Craig is just on too late for me to catch live these days!

Cassidy: It’s a reality kind of night for me: the two-hour finale of Masterchef on FOX, starting at 8/7c and then I will probably tune in to the American Ninja Warrior finale’s last hour on NBC. Masterchef promises to be a close race and I can’t wait to see what it happens, and ANW is just so exciting.

Lucie: Count me in for Masterchef too! I will never admit that I’m addicted to cooking competitions but once I watch one episode, I’m hooked until the end. I have a love/hate relationship with Masterchef and while I claim I don’t care who’ll win, deep down, I know that if Courtney wins, I will be raging. Social media, beware!

Is there a VERONICA MARS spinoff coming your way?

Be still my heart!

Well, not quite.

If you haven’t heard, last week CW Seed (what a name) announced they were airing a web series called Play It Again, Dick starring Neptune’s own Dick Casablancas (Ryan Hansen), beginning September 16. In it, Hansen tries to parlay the success of the Veronica Mars movie into his own spinoff, with some familiar faces gracing our screens.

You can watch that here:

Now, TV Line has added some stills to its photo gallery for the show. Are you intrigued? I know I sure am!

Also, is CW Seed an unfortunate channel name, or what?

Nels

Nels knew how to operate a TV remote control before she knew how to talk. As a result, she has spent an inordinate amount of time pretending she actually lives on a soundstage. When she isn’t watching whichever show is currently capturing her heart, she is writing about how said show is currently capturing her heart. She loves pie.

EMMYS 2014 Debriefing: Have your say!

What did you think about this year’s winners and losers? Did anything shock you? Did anything not shock you? (Ahem, Modern Family.)  What did they get right? What did they get oh-so-wrong?

Have at it!
