Meet Market Monday: Lance Sweets

Today’s edition of Meet Market Monday is a little different. While our original intent for this feature was to focus on some of our favorite female characters on the small screen, we also welcome the chance for equal opportunity gushing when the inspiration strikes us. Due to recent events in the fall TV season, we thought this would be a great time to branch out and showcase one of our favorite guys, too.

Name: Lance Sweets
Occupation: FBI psychologist/profiler/lounge pianist/babysitter
Show: Bones (FOX)

He’s a prodigy who is wise beyond his years, but also acts like a little boy when he’s around his friends. He’s a hotshot psychologist in the FBI, but struggled for years to gain respect from his peers because he was just so young. He’s got multiple doctorates and has studied among the best scientists in the world, but he’s not above rocking out to his favorite metal music or hanging out at karaoke bars to sing “Put Da Lime In Da Coconut” in his downtime. He’s a former foster kid who inexplicably became the baby duck of the biggest bunch of misfits in law enforcement. Most of all, he’s got one of the biggest hearts you could ever hope to meet, and remains steadfast to his friends right until the very end.

Meet Lance Sweets!

(Warning: this post contains major spoilers for the current season of Bones.)

Nels
Nels knew how to operate a TV remote control before she knew how to talk. As a result, she has spent an inordinate amount of time pretending she actually lives on a soundstage. When she isn’t watching whichever show is currently capturing her heart, she is writing about how said show is currently capturing her heart. She loves pie.

Bonus Meet Market Monday, late night edition: James Corden

I don’t know if you know this about me, but The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson is one of my favorite shows on TV right now, and I’ve been watching Craig’s run for nearly the entire decade he’s been on the air. I watched him on The Drew Carey Show before that as Mr. Wick, I’ve seen several of his movies, I’ve read his books multiple times, I’ve seen him live even more — to say I’m a fan is an understatement. So, when he announced he was stepping down from the Late, Late Show this year, I was bummed. And more than a little curious about who would be filling his horse-sized shoes.

Today, CBS confirmed that British comedian James Corden would be Ferguson’s successor, and I thought this was the perfect time to get to know our new late night bon vivant. Much like his predecessor, he’s a foreign multi-hyphenate who made tracks across the pond before heading over stateside to grace our television screens. It looks like CBS is going to be keeping the quirk in the Late Late Show time slot, and I couldn’t be happier!

Name: James Kimberley Corden
Occupation: Talk show host. Also: actor, writer, host, comedian and singer-songwriter. Remind you of anyone?
Show: The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson James Corden (CBS)

Meet Market Monday: Robin Scherbatsky

Today’s edition of Meet Market Monday is a bit of a cheat, because our subject happens to be in the news a lot recently thanks to a certain video clip making the rounds and creating quite the stir on the intertubes.

She loves guns and scotch. She’s a pro at laser tag, and can duke it out in a hockey fight with the best of them. She’s a globetrotter and a transplanted New Yorker.

She’s also a former teenage pop star in Canada. (What does that look like, you ask?)

Name: Robin Scherbatsky
Occupation: Reporter
Show: How I Met Your Mother (CBS)

On the surface, Robin (Cobie Smulders) might seem like a bit of a Mary Sue. She’s a beautiful woman in a glamorous job with a great wardrobe, but she loves hanging with the guys and indulging in stereotypically male pastimes. But she is so much more than her origins, even if her dad did always want her to be a boy.

Meet Market Monday: Temperance Brennan

As we mentioned last week, TYLL will be hosting a weekly feature on an awesome character we think you should get to know. On this Labor Day Monday, why not join us in celebrating another inspiring lady on our airwaves? This week’s subject may reside on the small screen, but her accomplishments, and her personality, are larger than life!

Name: Temperance Brennan (Née Joy Keenan… It’s a long story. Also goes by “Bones” by a certain someone. Get it?)
Occupation: Forensic anthropologist at the Jeffersonian Institution in Washington, D.C.; FBI consultant
Show: Bones

Whether it’s fending off the army in a Tibetan jungle, surveying genocide grave sites in Darfur, writing the next New York Times bestselling crime novel, running away with the circus (yeah that happened), or generally kicking ass, she’s a woman of action you don’t want to mess with. Yet she’s got a heart of gold that makes you keep coming back for more.

Meet Market Monday: Sue Heck

Why yes, that is another new column added to ThankYouLizLemon! On Mondays, we are going to be profiling a favorite character of ours we think you should meet! You’ll be friends, we swear.

Name: Sue Heck. (Actually, it’s Sue Sue Heck.)
Occupation: High school student
Show: The Middle (ABC)

With back to school just around the corner (or already in swing for some of you unlucky folks), I thought a great way to kick off this new feature is to introduce you to who should be your favorite high school senior. She runs cross country (because they have to let everyone on the team), she works part-time (to varying success), she has the same first and middle name (because her parents couldn’t bother to fix her birth certificate), she aspires to eat at the “B table” at school, but most of all, she’s a gosh-darned good person.
