SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE: First Hosts of the Season 40 (!) Revealed

SNL announced its first two hosts of the season this morning!

Chris Pratt, the lovable doofus from NBC’s own Parks and Recreation as well as the frontman of this summer’s hit Guardians of the Galaxy is hosting the 40th season premiere of the show, on September 27, which will have Ariana Grande as the musical guest.

Personally, we’d like to say good for him! He’s been hilarious (and underrated) on Parks and Rec for six seasons, not to mention his four seasons before that on Everwood, so it’s nice to see him become a leading man in his own right

The following week, on October 7,  it will be funny lady and SNL alum Sarah Silverman’s turn, with Maroon 5 as the musical guest.

This announcement follows the recent rumors that Bill Murray would be hosting the premiere, marking his return to the show (he hosted last in 1999) with Silverman and Pratt hosting the following weeks (with musical guests Grande, Maroon 5 and Hozier, respectively). That didn’t pan out, obviously, but it’d be curious to know if Murray is tapped to host later in the season.

Are you excited to see these hosts on the show? Will you be tuning in?

SNL returns for its 40th season on September 27 at 11:30/10:30c.

… is a young graduate student that has been way too passionate about television ever since she was little. While she insists she doesn’t have a specific type of show, they all usually have strong but flawed lady characters, some derivation of the stubborn friends-in-love/friends-to-lovers trope, and they all make her yell at her tv a lot. She just wishes she had more hours in the day so she could actually write about this.
